Hartlepool - Cricket Field : Map credit National Library of Scotland West Hartlepool Cricket Club was re-formed in 1879, they set out at a new ground in Foggy Furze West, on land provided by the Stranton Estate Company. The West Hartlepool Improvements Commission provided a steam roller to level the ground.

The first bicycle race at the ground took place straight after a cricket match on 9th July 1879, at which West Hartlepool played Seaton Crew. The bicycle race was a match over five miles for local competitor living within five miles of the area and West Hartlepool Bicycle Club acted as handicappers.

On Whit Monday 1880, the cricket club held a two day sports meeting, which included a two miles bicycle handicap race. This fixture was repeated the following year. The West Hartlepool Temperance Society held their first annual fete on 30th August 1882 and included a bicycle race.

There was very little bicycle racing at the ground until the Co-operative Society held a gala on 7th June 1893 which was attended by 10,000 people, the meeting included two bicycle races.

Hartlepool Fanciers Society held their 5th annual show and sports meeting on 15th May 1894, where there were five bicycle races, a trick cyclists, various entertainments, dancing and fireworks. This was probably the last bicycle racing to take place on Foggy Furze cricket field. In 1895, the cricket field was advertised to rent.
